I had the chance to check out an early screening of THE WHITE FORTRESS.
BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA’S OFFICIAL OSCAR SELECTION FOR 2021
OPENING IN SELECT THEATERS & ON DIGITAL PLATFORMS ON APRIL 22

WHAT’S THE MOVIE ABOUT?
THE WHITE FORTRESS stars Pavle Čemerkić as Faruk, an orphan who meets a timid teen girl, played by Sumeja Dardagan, from an affluent family; the two form a relationship as she explores his life of foraging and petty crime as a means of escaping her toxic home life. The cast also includes Jasmin Geljo, Kerim Čutuna, Alban Ukaj and Irena Mulamuhić.
The Canada/Bosnia co-production feature, written and directed by Igor Drljača, had its World Premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival as part of its Generation 14 plus section, and was Bosnia and Herzegovina’s selection to represent them at the 94th Academy Awards.
WHAT DID I THINK OF THE WHITE FORTRESS?
I enjoyed it…even though it gave me anxiety.

For me – I thought the movie simple with a very calm ride. 😎
The first hour of the movie was cool but for some reason I kept feeling that something really bad was going to happen.
The last 30 minutes of the movie – GOOD LORD! I really don’t wanna give anything away (no spoilers!) but yeah…those last 30 minutes. Damn you director. Damn you!! 😂
I really enjoyed the two main characters…Faruk and Mona. They definitely gave me Romeo and Juliet vibes. I thought the couple “clicked” really well – like two old souls meeting and falling in love all over again. They felt right for each other – but given their circumstances – Yeahhhhhhh.
I enjoyed the “butterfly kisses” scene – that brought back old memories of my past. (Don’t ask. 😂) That whole secret meadow part was great.
…and finally…I can’t forgot about the ending…all the photos, The White Fortress and the story all coming together…pretty damn good. (no spoilers!) 😂
Like I said before…I enjoyed the movie.

THE WHITE FORTRESS opens today at the Cinema Village in NY and on digital platforms.
